It focuses on children with this condition--which results from inadequate consumption of vitamin C (ascorbic acid)--and describes how infants fed artificial milk tend to be more at risk for the condition (human breast milk contains twice the vitamin C as cow's milk) and how mentally impaired youngsters who cannot chew properly also are at risk.
